The Mentoring Group -TMG

The Mentoring Group is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) full-service mentoring agency. Youth ages 10-21 years old are paired with trained caring adults who promote positive change, foster individual responsibility, and respect while building confidence.

Event

The Mentoring Group is organizing its inaugural Youth Economic Summit (YES). This innovative event will give a voice to the concerns, hopes and dreams of our youth while they gain an understanding and appreciation of current community issues and career opportunities.

The Youth participants for this event will be youth ages 14 through 18 years old and represent diverse backgrounds. The first half of YES is devoted to a forum called; Voices of Our Youth. This forum will enable our youth to express their hopes, dreams and concerns about being young here in Greenville. The second half will consist of workshops in the area of volunteerism, leadership & diversity, economics & education, health & science, politics & law enforcement, and career & entrepreneurship here in Greenville.

Facilitation of the Voices of Our Youth forum and the workshops will be a collaborative effort between mature and experienced experts and energetic college students who have a similar interest.

Upon completion of YES, a review of the VOICES of OUR YOUTH forum will be given by one of the Youth facilitators at The Mentoring Group's third annual Power Lunch, October 27. With in 90 days a full report will be posted on our web site. This report will also be distributed to educators, legislators, law enforcement officials, the business community, community leaders, parents and concerned citizens of Greenville. YES will also be used as the backdrop to produce a documentary about "what it is like to be a youth in Greenville South Carolina."

Our youth will want to participate in YES because they will have an opportunity to voice their opinions, appear in the documentary, meet our "Power Lunch" celebrity guest speaker and receive gifts.
